What is Digital Rupee?
The Digital Rupee( e ₹) or E- Rupee is a tokenized digital interpretation of the Indian Rupee, to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India( RBI) as a central bank digital currency( CBDC). The Digital Rupee was proposed in January 2017 and will be launched in the 2022- 23 financial time. The plan is to incorporate distributed census into Digital Rupee.
Like bills, it will be uniquely identifiable and regulated by Central Bank. Liability lies with RBI. Plans include online and offline vacuity. RBI will launch Digital Rupee for Wholesale( e ₹- W) feeding to financial institutions for interbank agreements and Digital Rupee for Retail( e ₹- R) for consumer and business deals. CBDC will remove ₹ 4,984.80 crore security printing costs borne by the general public, businesses, banks, and RBI on physical currency.
How it will work?
E-rupees will be issued in the same nomenclatures as paper currency and coins and will be distributed through the peacemakers, that is banks. Deals will be through a digital carryall offered by the sharing banks and stored on mobile phones and bias.
